Beyoglu - Taksim: Life,
Art, Culture and Amusements:
Istanbul is an International art and cultural center. There is an
International Arts and Cultural Festivals is held each year in June
and July with famous artists coming from all over the world. These
perfonmances are held mostly in the Ataturk Cultural Center (AKM).
Those enjoying classical music can hear it at Cemal Resit Rey Hall.
Operas, Operets, Ballets, Worldwide-Movies films, Bookshores,
Concerts, Jazz Evenings Exhibitions and Conferences all share the
cultural palette of the city. Istanbul also has a rich program of
night entertainment. Nightclubs provide splendid entertainment
throughout dinner, ranging from a selection of Turkish songs to the
famous bellydance. By the end of year 1990,the historical tramline
of Tünel-Taksim has recommenced to service and it keeps on operating
on a line of 1640 meters with 3 motrises and 2 wagons, making 14.600
trips, totaling 23.944 kilometers per year and carrying 6,000
passengers a day on average; as well as serving for touristy
purposes. Alongside are modern high capacity discos, cabarets and
jazz clubs in the Taksim - Harbiye district

number of restaurants in restored Byzantine and Ottoman buildings
which give a unique atmosphere to an evening out. Kumkapi, with its
many taverns, bars, and deligious fish restaurants, is another
attractive district. For many years people have been meeting in
Cicek Pasaji in the Beyoglu district for snacks and seafood
specialities. Also in Beyoglu district, the narrow Nevizade street,
near Cicek Pasaj, is the best place in Istanbul for eating Turkish
specialties and drinking Raki. On the Bosphorus, Ortaköy is the best
place for nightlife in Istanbul, with its nightclubs, jazz clubs,
fine seafood restaurants and bars
